Manchester United have reportedly rekindled their interest in signing RB Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano this summer.
The Red Devils got the new season off to a disappointing start on Saturday when they were beaten 3-1 at home to Crystal Palace in their opening match of the campaign.
United's performance at Old Trafford drew criticism of their defence in particular, and The Telegraph claims that they have now revived their pursuit of Upamecano as a result.
The 20-time champions of England were heavily linked with a move for the 21-year-old earlier this summer but had decided to wait until next year to make their move due to a release clause which becomes active in 2021.
However, they could now bring their plans forward by 12 months again, although the report claims that they would need to sell players before they buy Upamecano.
The likes of Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo are all thought to be available for transfer, but time is running out with the deadline for overseas transfers coming up on October 5.
Upamecano would likely cost United more this summer than he would next, with RB Leipzig expected to demand at least £60m for his signature after he only signed a new long-term contract in July.
