Middlesbrough and Millwall fans handed bans after Riverside disorder

The crowd trouble took place at Boro's final home game of last season.

Banning orders have been issued to 12 fans after an investigation into crowd trouble at Middlesbrough's home game against Millwall last season.

Middlesbrough have confirmed seven of their supporters and five Millwall fans have so far been banned, while a total of 22 people had been identified.

Boro's final home game last season was marred when dozens of fans situated in the home sections ran on to the pitch and goaded Millwall fans in the away end at the Riverside.

"Operation Hyde, an investigation into disorder at a football match at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, April 28 2018, has now concluded with over 20 suspects successfully identified," read a statement on Middlesbrough's official website.

"Extensive enquiries into the Middlesbrough FC v Millwall FC match identified and dealt with 22 suspects, 15 of whom have been reported for summons and seven have been dealt with via youth interventions.

"Banning orders have so far been given by the court to seven Middlesbrough FC football fans and five Millwall FC fans.

"All of these males were also fined and one given community service."

Boro secured their Sky Bet Championship play-off place with a 2-0 win against Millwall at the Riverside in their final home game of the regular season.

Fans invaded the pitch from the home end and ran to the away end at full-time, with both sets of supporters throwing missiles before police restored order.

Cleveland Police superintendent Dave Sutherland added: "Working with colleagues in the Metropolitan Police and at Middlesbrough FC we have conducted a thorough investigation into the disorder following the Middlesbrough v Millwall fixture in April last year.

"As a consequence a number of individuals were identified and are being dealt with through the criminal justice process with a number of them being banned from attending future football matches."
