Philadelphia Union put three past New York Red Bulls

Conor Casey, Fred and Sebastien Le Toux find the net as Philadelphia Union defeat New York Red Bulls 3-1.

Philadelphia Union recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over New York Red Bulls in Major League Soccer today.

The home side got off to the ideal start, racing into the lead with less than 10 minutes on the clock when Conor Casey turned in Andrew Wenger's inviting cross.

Casey turned provider for Philadelphia's second goal, lining up a shooting opportunity for Fred inside the area, which the Brazilian powered into the back of the net.

New York were handed a lifeline on the hour mark as Bradley Wright-Phillips drilled the ball home from close range following good work by Thierry Henry, but a comeback was never on the cards.

Shortly after Wright-Phillips's effort pulled a goal back, the visitors' Maurice Edu drew a foul from Eric Alexander in the penalty area, allowing Sebastien Le Toux to bury the resultant spot kick and put the match to bed.
