Angel di Maria, Edinson Cavani score to secure Paris Saint-Germain win

Angel di Maria scores his first Paris Sain-Germain goal as the French champions see off Malmo in their opening Champions League Group A game at Parc des Princes.

Angel di Maria's first goal for Paris Saint-Germain and Edinson Cavani's header have secured a comfortable victory for the French champions over Malmo in their Champions League Group A match at Parc des Princes.

The Swedish side finished bottom of their group on their return to the competition last season, and their resistance lasted just four minutes in this year's campaign before the hosts struck.

Di Maria was slipped in down the right-hand side and he opened his body up to curl a finish past Johan Wiland to score his first goal for the club and hand his side the lead.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic, returning to the starting lineup to face his former club, had two chances to double the lead when he headed Gregory van der Wiel's cross over the bar from close range before seeing his tame effort saved by Wiland as Laurent Blanc's side pushed for a second.

The chances kept coming for the home side as Blaise Matuidi completely missed the ball from Ibrahimovic's knock-down and Di Maria curled over, but Malmo could have stolen an equaliser when Nikola Djurdjic beat Van der Wiel and flashed an effort across the face of goal.

PSG picked up where they had left off after the interval, their frontline trio combining well to give Cavani a great chance to double the lead, but the Argentine's finish needed far more composure as he blazed high and wide of the goal.

Di Maria and Maxwell produced good saves from Wiland as Malmo clung on in their attempts to stay within touching distance, but the hosts did increase their advantage when Ibrahimovic flicked Maxwell's cross for Cavani to head home his fifth goal in the last three games from point-blank range.

Wiland pulled off a spectacular stop to keep out David Luiz's powerful header as PSG searched for more, but Malmo nearly reduced the arrears when Kevin Trapp was called into rare action to deny Djurdjic something to cheer.

Ezequiel Lavezzi saw a shot blocked on the line and had a goal ruled out for offside as PSG pressed until the end, but they ultimately had to settle for two as they started their European campaign with three points.
