Zlatan Ibrahimovic believes that he was well worthy of being honoured at the FIFA Ballon d'Or gala in Zurich on Monday.
The Paris Saint-Germain striker was awarded the Puskas award for Goal of the Year 2013, despite his spectacular overhead kick effort against England coming in 2012.
"I think that whoever scored that goal deserves to win a trophy for it," Ibrahimovic said upon collecting his award. "Yes, it was in a friendly game, but it's a goal that remains in history.
"People will remember it for a long time and players will try to reproduce it, but I am the one who did it and I'm very happy.
"To get a trophy for it is some kind of proof. It's already an amazing goal, but when you get a trophy for it, it's some kind of proof that it has its own statement and is not only part of history but it has its own trophy. This goal is a perfect thing."
Ibrahimovic's goal beat Benfica's Nemanja Matic's stunning volley in Benfica's 2-2 draw with Porto and Neymar for his fierce strike in Brazil's 3-0 victory over Japan in the Confederations Cup.
