Football clubs within the Scottish Premier League will decide whether Rangers will be able to compete in the top flight on July 4.
The clubs in question will vote on whether the financially-stricken club deserves to be part of the SPL following new owner Charles Green's refused offer of a company voluntary arrangement by HM Revenue and Customs.
The former SPL champions have been replaced in next season's fixture list by 'Club 12' as the organisers wait to learn the vote next month.
SPL secretary Iain Blair said: "Following the failure of Rangers FC to exit administration via a CVA, we have received an application to register the transfer of their SPL share to a newco. Should it be rejected, then another club may be invited to join the SPL for season 2012-13."
There is a possibility that Dunfermline, who were relegated from the top flight last season, or runners-up to promoted Ross County, Dundee, could take the 'Club 12' spot if Rangers are refused entry.
