Jorge Valdano: 'Real Madrid, Barcelona favourites for Champions League'

Former Real Madrid boss Jorge Valdano claims that Barcelona and Real Madrid will battle for the Champions League title this season.

Former Real Madrid boss Jorge Valdano has claimed that Real Madrid and Barcelona are the joint-favourites to win the Champions League this season.

Each of the last two editions of the tournament have been won by the La Liga pair, with Barca triumphing last season after Real Madrid lifted their 10th European Cup in 2014.

"The favourites are in Spain, especially Madrid and Barca. That is their aspiration, to win it, and that's the only way they'll feel successful," Valdano told beIN Sports.

"They're not even content with winning it, as we've seen with the treble and the sextuple. Madrid are as likely as anyone else to be in the final."

Valdano represented Real Madrid as a player from 1984 to 1987, before managing the Spanish giants for two years in the 1990s.
