Bordeaux end Zinedine Zidane pursuit

Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud confirms that Real Madrid assistant manager Zinedine Zidane will not be the club's new coach.

Bordeaux have confirmed that they are no longer in talks with Real Madrid's assistant manager Zinedine Zidane over their coaching vacancy.

The Ligue 1 side had been pursuing the former France international after Francis Gillot quit at the end of the French season.

The club's president, Jean-Louis Triaud, told RTL: "Unfortunately, things have not worked out for us to recruit Zidane. I can confirm today he will not be the coach of Bordeaux.

"It is his attachment to Real Madrid. You cannot forget that two of his children are in Real Madrid's youth system, that his family is well used to Madrid where they have lived for nearly 11 years. It's a difficult context."

Bordeaux finished the season seventh in Ligue 1.
