Tottenham Hotspur avoid a FA Cup upset with a comfortable win over Cheltenham Town at White Hart Lane.

Roman Pavlyuchenko and Jermain Defoe were among the goalscorers as Tottenham Hotspur ensured that they would not become the victim of a FA Cup giant-killing at home to Cheltenham Town this afternoon.

Spurs controlled large parts of the opening half and eventually broke the deadlock with 23 minutes played. Giovani dos Santos crossed the ball from out wide and England international Defoe was on hand to score from close range.

Defoe turned creator three minutes before the break when he found Pavlyuchenko unmarked inside the area and the Russian beat Scott Brown from six yards out.

Both goalscorers had chances to extend the lead further after the restart, but Brown was on hand to deny the duo.

The home side claimed their third of the afternoon with four minutes remaining through Mexican winger Dos Santos, who shot high into the net.
