Mauricio Pochettino keen to keep Dele Alli humble after England call-up

Mauricio Pochettino warns Spurs midfielder Dele Alli that he must remain grounded and take his first England call-up with a pinch of salt.

Tottenham Hotspur boss Mauricio Pochettino has said that highly-rated midfielder Dele Alli must stay grounded after his early-season form was rewarded with a first England call-up.

The 19-year-old, who has played in eight of Spurs' 10 games this season, was promoted to the Three Lions' senior squad ahead of Euro 2016 qualifiers with Estonia and Lithuania next week.

Pochettino, who last week claimed that Alli was not ready for international level, says that he is happy for the youngster, but stresses the importance of staying humble as his star continues to rise.

"I'm very happy for Dele, it's important to look after him. We have a great relationship with [England manager] Roy Hodgson and his staff," he told reporters after Thursday's 1-1 Europa League draw at AS Monaco.

"We have to keep his feet on the ground but he's very mature on and off the pitch."

Alli, who spent last season on loan with MK Dons, has started three of the Lilywhites' seven Premier League games so far.
