Sunderland's Lee Cattermole promises to bounce back

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole is adamant that he and his teammates can bounce back from their opening-day defeat to Leicester City.

Sunderland midfielder Lee Cattermole has vowed to bounce back from his disappointing display in his side's opening-day defeat to Leicester City.

The Black Cats conceded three goals in the opening 25 minutes at the King Power Stadium, leading boss Dick Advocaat to make the decision to replace his captain following his costly mistake which allowed Riyad Mahrez to score from the penalty spot.

Cattermole has admitted that he was frustrated with his performance, but believes that his side can find their form in the second week of the campaign.

He told the club's official website: "Throughout the whole dressing room everyone was bitterly disappointed after last weekend's game. We let ourselves down, the club down and the supporters down. It is not the way we wanted to start the season.

"There are no easy games in this league but we have to make it harder than we did for Leicester. We didn't turn up. It was also a disappointing day for me but the gaffer made a decision which I respect and I move on. I need to keep working hard and if selected put in good performances to get my season going.

"The way football is now things get blown out of proportion at times but as players you know it is one game. You make mistakes and you have bad performances but it is about how you dig in and respond."

Sunderland face Norwich City at the Stadium of Light on Saturday.
