Republic of Ireland coach Giovanni Trapattoni has revealed that James McClean is likely make his international debut against the Czech Republic this week.
The Sunderland winger was left out of Trapattoni's original squad for the match in Dublin.
However, the 22-year-old's form in recent weeks saw him earn a late call-up from the Italian boss.
"I think he can do well," said Trapattoni. "No, I don't think he will start, but probably play in the second half.
"I think he can play left [in midfield], but I think also in the future he can play left or right in the same positions.
"When he has the ball he knows what he can do. At the moment he is young, but he has enough experience."
McClean joined Sunderland last summer from Derry City.
