Martin O'Neill has played down speculation that his job as manager of Sunderland is under threat.
Two wins from their opening 15 matches has left the Black Cats 18th in the Premier League table as the English game heads into the festive period.
However, O'Neill is adamant that he is the "only man" that is capable of getting the club away from the relegation zone over the coming weeks.
"So what do you do then? So you go and put someone else in charge, he gets a group of 12, 13 games and can't win any matches? It's the same thing," O'Neill told reporters.
"I don't want to sound wildly boastful, but not only am I the best man for the job, I am actually the only man for the job."
O'Neill has been in charge at the Stadium of Light for just over 12 months.
