Celta Vigo secure draw with Valencia

Fabian Orellana scores the equaliser after missing a penalty as Celta Vigo claim a 1-1 draw with Valencia in La Liga.

Fabian Orellana missed a penalty before scoring an equaliser as Celta Vigo claimed a 1-1 draw against Valencia in La Liga this evening.

Valencia's defence appeared nervy in the early stages, and some poor marking gifted a chance to Orellana, whose powerful low strike was pushed wide by Diego Alves.

The visitors improved as the first half progressed, but they handed Celta the chance to break the deadlock when Nicolas Otamendi brought down Charles inside the box.

However, Orellana was unable to convert from the penalty spot as Alves reacted impressively to keep out his effort.

Valencia punished the hosts for the miss before the break when Rodrigo cut in from the left wing to hit a shot which somehow managed to sneak underneath the body of Sergio.

Celta dominated possession early in the second half, and they were rewarded for their pressure when Orellana fired home after Valencia had missed the chance to clear a corner.

A fast break from the hosts set up another chance a few moments later, but Alves managed to get a strong hand to Nolito's powerful strike.

It was Valencia who finished the game on the front foot, but clear chances were difficult to come by as both sides were forced to settle for a point.
