Stoffel Vandoorne is deserving of a seat in Formula 1 for next season, according to his GP2 team boss.

Vandoorne, who is currently on the books of McLaren, has risen to the top of the GP2 standings this season, but will not be racing for the Woking-based outfit after they decided to retain Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso for 2016.

However, ART Grand Prix boss Frederic Vasseur has claimed that Vandoorne is worthy of a drive in F1.

Vasseur told Motorsport.com: "From a mathematical point of view, he is the best driver in the history of GP2.

"It is no secret that Stoffel is courted by Formula One teams. I pray Vandoorne gets given a shot next year because he's been super good. If not, then it's complete bull****."

Vandoorne has been linked with the second seat at Lotus, which has been vacated by Romain Grosjean.
