Lewis Hamilton has admitted that gaining pole at the Singapore Grand Prix was "very important".
Hamilton pipped Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg by seven thousandths of a second to claim pole in qualifying.
Hamilton told reporters: "Pole here has always been very important. The right side of the grid, for example, always seems to get the better starts.
"Being up at the front will be crucial and that's obviously my target for qualifying tomorrow."
Nico Rosberg currently leads the driver's championship with 238 points, while teammate Lewis Hamilton has 216 points.
