Rory McIlroy set to miss cut in Florida

Rory McIlroy is set to miss the cut at the Honda Classic following a second-round 74 at the PGA National in Florida.

World number one Rory McIlroy is likely to miss the cut at his first event on the PGA Tour this year, the Honda Classic in Palm Beach Gardens.

After a three-over-par round on day one at the PGA National, the Open champion looked set to move up the leaderboard after a birdie at the fifth hole.

However, dropped shots at six, seven and nine saw the Northern Irishman reach the turn in 37 as his hopes of making the weekend faded.

Despite the weather interrupting his round on a number of occasions, McIlroy was unable to find form on the back nine and, after a bogey at the 10th, he could only muster seven consecutive pars before a further bogey at the last.

His round of 74 is likely to leave the former US Open winner short of the cut line, which is currently projected at four-over-par.

Round two was suspended due to bad light with several players still to complete their 18 holes, including Brendan Steele, who birdied his opening four holes to lead by two.
