Rory McIlroy has missed the cut at the Irish Open at Royal County Down after failing to recover from an opening round of 80, leaving him 12 shots behind the leaders after two rounds.
The world number one started his round well as he attempted to undo the damage of Thursday's performance, getting to within two shots on the 12th, but a double bogey on the 15th hole saw him finish with 71, leaving him nine-over-par.
Six players are tied on three-under for the lead, with Bernd Wiesberger of Austria and Scot Richie Ramsay both carding rounds of 67 to climb up the standings.
Britons Chris Wood and Tyrrell Hatton also sit at the top, alongside Soren Kjeldsen of Denmark and Spain's Rafa Cabrera-Bello, who both finished strongly.
Ireland's Padraig Harrington is in a strong position, just one shot behind the leaders alongside Luke Donald, but Spain's Sergio Garcia was among the other big names to miss out.
