Tiger Wood endured a difficult day on his return to competitive golf as Greg Chalmers earned a one-shot lead after the opening round of the Quicken Loans National.
Only 26 of the 120 players managed to break par on a tough day at Congressional Country Club, but Chalmers was one of the few who enjoyed success as he jumped to the top of the leaderboard on five-under with three birdies in his final three holes.
Ricky Barnes and Fredrik Jacobson are just a stroke behind the leader, while US Open runner-up Erik Compton carded a birdie in each of his last four holes to join Patrick Reed, Bill Haas and Tyrone van Aswegen on three-under.
Woods was making his first appearance on the PGA Tour since March following back surgery, and it was a disastrous start for the 14-time Major champion as he bogeyed seven of his opening 12 holes.
Solid driving off the tee and three birdies on the back nine allowed Woods to recover, but he was forced to settle for a three-over round of 74 in Maryland.
