Mixed emotions for Ellie Downie after all-round final

Great Britain's Ellie Downie says that she has mixed emotions after finishing in 13th place in the all-round final on Thursday night.

Great Britain's Ellie Downie has suggested that she was content with her 13th-place finish in the all-round final on Thursday night.

A poor dismount from the uneven bars and beam resulted in Downie dropping down the standings after a promising start, but the teenager has said that she is optimistic about her future in the sport after gaining invaluable experience in Rio de Janeiro.

The 17-year-old told reporters: "I was really happy with how floor and vault went. On bars I think I just lost a bit of concentration, which is really frustrating and something I'll learn from.

"I had a long wait on beam but didn't feel nervous, the actual routine was really good but the landing again I needed to focus more. It's mixed emotions knowing that if I had gone clean I had a chance of a medal, which shows I'm right up there on my day.

"That's a big positive to take out of these Games looking ahead. It's been a bit of a rollercoaster experience but I'm very proud of what I've achieved and the fact I've been able to battle through."

Downie also featured in the GB squad which finished in fifth place in the team event.
