Kate Richardson-Walsh 'honoured' to carry flag for England at closing ceremony

Hockey player Kate Richardson-Walsh says that she is 'emotional and full of pride' after being selected as England's flag bearer for the closing ceremony of Glasgow 2014.

Kate Richardson-Walsh has said that she is full of pride after being selected to carry the flag for England in tonight's Commonwealth Games closing ceremony.

The 34-year-old captained Team England's women's hockey side to a silver medal yesterday, having lost to Australia in the final.

"I'm emotional, as always," BBC Sport quotes Richardson-Walsh as saying. "It's such an honour, particularly because the whole of Team England has performed so well, it adds an extra bit of pride. I'm just really excited and hoping that I don't trip over!"

Squash player Nick Matthew was England's flag bearer in the opening ceremony.
