CoverGirl respond to photoshopped NFL ad of model with black eye

CoverGirl respond to a recent photoshopped image highlighting domestic violence on one of their NFL ads following the Ray Rice controversy.

Beauty company CoverGirl have issued a statement after one of their NFL makeup line ads was photoshopped to highlight domestic violence.

An image of a female model advertising the makeup alongside the slogan of 'Get Your Game Face On' was photoshopped at the weekend to make the woman look like she has a black eye.

The image, which went viral on Twitter, was in reference to the recent controversy surrounding former Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice, who was released by the club after CCTV footage of him knocking out his then-fiancee in a casino lift came to light.

It has now been reported that NFL had already seen a copy of the footage three months before US website TMZ released it into the public domain.

After the photoshopped CoverGirl image emerged, the beauty company released a statement to For The Win, saying: "As a brand that has always supported women and stood for female empowerment, CoverGirl believes domestic violence is completely unacceptable.

"We developed our NFL programme to celebrate the more than 80 million female football fans. In light of recent events, we have encouraged the NFL to take swift action on their path forward to address the issue of domestic violence."

CoverGirl is the official beauty sponsor for the league.
