Nick Phipps: 'No ideas on selection'

Australia scrum-half Nick Phipps claims that the players have been given no indication about who will play in the opening two World Cup games.

Australia scrum-half Nick Phipps has claimed that the squad have no idea which players the coaching staff are planning to select at the World Cup.

Head coach Michael Cheika recently confirmed that he would name different sides for next Wednesday's opener against Fiji and the meeting with Uruguay four days later as he looks to keep the players fresh ahead of key games against England and Wales.

Phipps insists that their preparation for Pool A has been good, but the 26-year-old is still unsure who will be in the team for the Fiji game.

"It's been pretty brutal in training and the combination of mixing and matching means we haven't been given an indication about what they're thinking," Phipps, who is battling Will Genia for the No.9 jersey, told reporters.

"It's a good opportunity for everyone to get to know each other. We are pushing each other to get better and we can't gauge anything on selections."

Phipps made just one appearance from the bench for the Wallabies four years ago.
