World of rugby pays tribute to Jerry Collins

Ospreys legend Adam Jones leads the tributes to former teammate Jerry Collins, who has tragically died at the age of 34.

The world of rugby has been paying tribute to former New Zealand international Jerry Collins, who has died in a car accident in France at the age of 34.

Collins, who made 48 appearances for the All Blacks, was killed when his vehicle collided with a bus near the town of Beziers.

Teammates and past opponents alike have mourned the passing of the much-respected Kiwi, who spent two years at Ospreys during a 14-year senior career.

Wales and Lions captain Sam Warburton took to Twitter to say: "What a huge loss. Inspiration to many young players growing up including myself. RIP Jerry Collins and his wife Alana."

Former Ospreys teammate Adam Jones added: "Unbelievably tragic news to wake up to about Jerry Collins and his wife. Lucky enough to play against and with him. Great bloke and player."

Other figures from the world of rugby were also quick to pay their respect, with Piri Weepu tweeting: "Very sad day to hear a team mate and our very good friend Jerry Collins has passed #allblacklegend."

Cory Jane weighed in with: "Such sad news about Jerry, his wife & baby.... R.I.P Hitman."

The Samoa-born back-rower joined French second division outfit Narbonne in January, following a two-year stint playing in Japan for Yamaha Jubilo.
