Luca Brecel stuns Ronnie O'Sullivan to reach World Championship semi-finals

Belgium's Luca Brecel remarkably reels off seven straight frames to record a 13-10 victory over seven-time winner Ronnie O'Sullivan in the World Championship quarter-finals.

Luca Brecel has recorded the biggest win of his career by beating Ronnie O'Sullivan 13-10 in the World Championship quarter-finals.

The seven-time world champion had taken a 10-6 lead into the final session on Wednesday afternoon, but he was well below-par as his Belgian opponent reeled off seven successive frames at the Crucible.

Before this tournament, Brecel had posted five successive first-round exits in Sheffield, yet he will reach the final if he can defeat either Anthony McGill or Si Jiahui.

After edging the first frame of the day, Brecel posted a 112 break to further reduce the deficit to 10-8, and more mistakes from O'Sullivan preceded a Brecel 64 break in the 19th frame.

A 72 break followed in the 20th, putting the match on level terms, and another effort of 61 proved to be decisive as Brecel continued his remarkable run.

Having moved one way from the win, Brecel compiled a match-winning effort in the 23rd frame, taking it 63-1 as O'Sullivan opted to shake hands rather than attempt to secure a minimum of three snookers.

Earlier in the day, Mark Allen withstood a gutsy performance from Jak Jones to eventually prevail 13-10, taking five of the last six frames after Jones had moved 9-8 ahead.

A 66 and two 64-breaks were enough for Allen to get over the line, setting up a last-four showdown with either Mark Selby or John Higgins.
