Rafael Nadal through to French Open third round in straight sets

Rafael Nadal eases past Austria's Dominic Thiem to reach the third round of the French Open.

World number one and reigning French Open champion Rafael Nadal has brushed aside Austria's Dominic Thiem in the second round of this year's tournament, winning 6-2 6-2 6-3.

After a tough hold in the opening game, Nadal wasted no time getting stuck into his opponent's serve and broke at the first time of asking before surging 5-1 ahead.

Serving for the opener Nadal was broken, but he fought back to take the very next game to 15 with his second set point of the first set.

In the second set it was comfortable for the Spaniard, as he held his own serve easily and broke twice on his way to a 6-2 win.

Thiem got off to the perfect start in the third as, having held for 1-1, he broke Nadal in the third game, but it merely prompted the Spaniard into action as he duly won five games in a row to take the set 6-3 and the match with it.
