Russian snowboarder Alena Zavarzina has said that she felt "very happy" watching her husband win the parallel giant slalom gold, just 10 minutes after she clinched bronze in the women's event.
The 24-year-old won the race for third in her event earlier today, before American-born Vic Wild clinched gold for the host nation in the same discipline.
Zavarzina told BBC Sport: "I'm very happy that Vic got gold. This is what he worked for. He's so far from his hometown, he did an amazing job.
"He had to switch countries, switch nationality, accept something that some people would never accept.
"He has to deal with the Russian mentality, with stuff he's not used to, working with people who don't understand him most of the time."
Wild applied for Russian citizenship following his wedding to Zavarzina in 2011.
