Great Britain lose close contest against Switzerland

Great Britain's women's curling team lose a tightly-fought contest against Switzerland 8-6.

Great Britain's women's curling team have lost 8-6 in their round-robin game against Switzerland at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Following a nail-biting 10-8 victory over South Korea this morning, Eve Muirhead's side were looking to record their fifth victory of the Winter Games against the Swiss.

In a tense first end, Team GB got the steal and went into an early 1-0 lead.

However, Switzerland scored two in the second end and added another soon after to race into a 3-1 advantage after three ends.

Muirhead then took a one with her last effort in the fifth end to reduce the deficit to 3-2 at the halfway point.

The sixth end was dismal for Team GB, though, as Switzerland scored three to take a seemingly unassailable 6-2 lead.

With a perfectly-placed last shot in the seventh end, Muirhead scored two to give Great Britain a fighting chance, but Switzerland went 7-4 ahead in the eighth end.

Team GB gave themselves a fighting chance of pulling off the most unlikely of victories by scoring two in the penultimate end, but Switzerland claimed one in the final end to take victory.

Great Britain and Switzerland are now tied in fourth place in the standings after four wins each from seven games.
