The Cincinnati Bengals have signed former Houston Texans safety Danieal Manning on what is thought to be a one-year deal.

Manning was released by the Texans on Monday after an injury-hit 2013 campaign, bringing an end to his three-year spell in Houston.

The 31-year-old made just six appearances last season due to a knee problem, recording 24 tackles, a sack and a pass breakup for a Texans side that managed just two wins all year.

Manning's move sees him reunited with Vance Joseph, who also spent three years in Houston as defensive backs coach before moving to Cincinnati earlier in the off-season.

Manning is expected to feature mainly off the bench next campaign, acting as a mentor for George Iloka and Shawn Williams, although he could also compete with Iloka for a starting spot.

His arrival appears to suggest that Chris Crocker will not be returning to the franchise, although the veteran has shelved plans to retire in order rejoin the Bengals in both of the last two seasons.
