Denver Broncos cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie feels that his comments about retiring from the NFL were misunderstood.
The 27-year-old revealed on Monday that the Super Bowl could be his last game in the league because of the terms of his one-year contract with the Broncos.
He told reporters: "You've got to understand. I think about Fabian Washington who is from Bradenton, just like I am. First round, one contract, got a one-year deal, never came back.
"I work out with him, he's still fast, still in his prime and I think, 'that could be me.' I think about guys like that. I can't speak on that. I am prepared for whatever. That's what I mean about this being the last go-round."
Rodgers-Cromartie had 31 tackles and three interceptions in the 2013 regular season.
