Joique Bell stars in pre-Super Bowl Broadway performance

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell says that starring on stage is similar to playing football, after making his Broadway debut ahead of Sunday's Super Bowl.

Detroit Lions running back Joique Bell has starred in a Broadway performance of Rock Of Ages, as the NFL try to link football with the arts ahead of the Super Bowl.

It was announced last week that a number of shows would be cancelled or moved in line with New York's first ever hosting of the season finale, as well as part of Broadway being transformed into "Super Bowl Boulevard" in the lead-up to the game.

Now Bell has featured in a performance himself, getting 10 minutes of stage time as part of the two-hour show.

Following his stage debut, he told Michigan Live: "I grew up always hearing about Broadway plays, but I had never been a part of it. I really enjoyed it. It's kind of like Sundays. You got a big crowd out there, and there's no time to be nervous.

"The guys in charge said to do something you're comfortable with, and I was like, 'Shoot, let's do my touchdown dance'. So we came out, I did it, and I kind of added in the grabbing peoples' hands in the front row because, rock 'n' roll, that's what they do!

"But nobody was standing up, so I couldn't do the crowd surfing."

On the field, Bell rushed for 650 yards and eight touchdowns as the Lions narrowly missed out on the playoffs in the NFC North.
