Green Bay Packers cornerback Sam Shields will test the free-agent market when it opens later this month, according to a report.

The 26-year-old was in talks with the Packers about a new deal with the club, who he has been with since signing for them as an undrafted free agent in 2010.

However, those negotiations broke down and Shields will now try to secure a long-term contract with a different club as the Packers are unlikely to use the franchise tag on him, reports ProFootballTalk.com.

Shields recorded 61 tackles and four interceptions last season.
