Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Chad Henne has signed a new two-year contract with the team.
Henne's previous deal was on the verge of expiring, with just four days until the start of free agency and one until he would have been able to open negotiations with other teams.
However, the two parties have now come to an agreement on a two-year deal worth a reported $8m (£4.8m), including $4.5m (£2.7m) guaranteed in the first year.
Henne wrestled the Jaguars' starting job off Blaine Gabbert last season, taking advantage of his teammate's injury problems to start 13 games.
The 28-year-old threw for 3,421 yards and 13 touchdowns with 14 interceptions in that time, becoming the franchise's first quarterback to throw for more than 3,000 yards since 2009.
The Jaguars made a poor start to the season, losing their opening eight games, but Henne enjoyed a better second half of the campaign, leading the team to a 4-4 record.
His starting place is not confirmed for next year, however, as the Jaguars are expected to select a quarterback with the third pick in May's NFL Draft.
