Report: Johnthan Banks diagnosed with MRSA

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Johnthan Banks becomes the third member of the club to be diagnosed with MRSA.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers cornerback Johnthan Banks has become the third member of the club to have been diagnosed with a methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection, according to a report.

The Buccaneers confirmed that one of their players had picked up the infection but refused to identify which member of their squad it was.

Offensive lineman Carl Nicks and kicker Lawrence Tynes were the previous members of Greg Schiano's side to obtain the illness, although that was during their side's training camp over two months ago.

This latest outbreak has been met with concern by the NFL, who said in a statement: "Our office, the NFLPA, and appropriate medical specialists are working with the Buccaneers' medical staff to aggressively address the matter."

The Duke Infection Control Outreach Network have addressed the Buccaneers' players and staff following Banks's infection, according to NFL Network.

Schiano's side are due to face the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.
