Great Britain's Daniel Awde is forced to withdraw from the Olympic decathlon after injuring himself in the long jump this morning.

Great Britain's Daniel Awde has been forced to withdraw from the Olympic decathlon after injuring himself in the long jump this morning.

The 24-year-old got off to a flyer by winning his heat of the 100m in a new personal best of 10.71s.

However, he faulted on his opening two attempts at the long jump and appeared to be struggling with a knee problem.

The Brit was in seventh position after the 100m but his third attempt at the long jump was way short of the competition and he dropped to 17th before pulling out of the event.
