Man City injury, suspension news and return dates for Man United: Haaland, Rodri, Ake, Akanji, Stones latest

Sports Mole rounds up Manchester City's injury and suspension news ahead of their Premier League derby showdown with rivals Manchester United on Sunday.

Manchester City will be looking to boost their hopes of securing a top-five finish in the Premier League when they travel to Old Trafford to lock horns with rivals Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The Citizens followed up their FA Cup quarter-final win at Bournemouth last weekend with a 2-0 top-flight victory over Leicester City at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday night - their 15th Premier League win of the season.

Pep Guardiola's men are now seeking revenge against the Red Devils after they threw away a one-goal lead with just three minutes remaining to lose 2-1 at home to Ruben Amorim's side in the reverse fixture at the Etihad in December.

Here, Sports Mole rounds up Man City's latest injury and suspension news ahead of the 196th instalment of the Manchester derby.

Erling Haaland

Status: Out
Type of injury: Ankle
Possible return date: May 10 (vs. Southampton)

Erling Haaland suffered an injury to his left ankle in the FA Cup win over Bournemouth on March 30 and has since been ruled out for five to seven weeks. The Norwegian will therefore target a return at some stage in May.

Rodri

Status: Out
Type of injury: Knee
Possible return date: Unknown

Rodri was expected to miss the rest of the 2024-25 season with an ACL injury that he sustained in September last year. However, the Ballon d'Or winner has made progress in his recovery and has begun individual training.

There is a chance that Rodri will make his long-awaited comeback before the end of this season, but the Spaniard is unlikely to be rushed back into first-team action.

Nathan Ake

Status: Out
Type of injury: Foot
Possible return date: Unknown

Nathan Ake underwent successful surgery on a fracture in his left foot at the beginning of March and is facing 10 to 11 weeks on the sidelines according to Guardiola, potentially ruling him out for the rest of the season.

Manuel Akanji

Possible return date: Unknown

Manuel Akanji underwent successful surgery on an abductor injury sustained on February 11 and there is a possibility that the defender returns to full fitness before the end of this month.

John Stones

John Stones has been sidelined since mid-February with a thigh injury that he picked up in a Champions League defeat to Real Madrid. The defender was initially ruled out for between eight and 10 weeks, so he will likely target a return towards the end of April or the beginning of May.
