Kell Brook expects Amir Khan to lose to Saul Alvarez

Kell Brook predicts that rival Amir Khan will lose to Saul Alvarez when he steps up in weight to face the WBC middleweight champion.

Kell Brook has insisted that rival Amir Khan has nothing to lose by stepping up in weight to face WBC middleweight champion Saul Alvarez.

On Tuesday, Khan shocked the boxing world by announcing that he would face Alvarez in Las Vegas on May 7, ending hopes of a Wembley showdown between himself and IBF welterweight champion Brook.

Alvarez is favourite to prevail against Khan with the Brit having never previously competed above the 147lbs division, but Brook says that the Bolton fighter is in a "win-win" situation having taken up the challenge of facing the Mexican.

The 29-year-old told Sky Sports News: "I don't know if he's cashing himself in or what but I don't believe he thinks he can win. That's me being honest. He'll lose in that fight.

"They can always come back down and fight the welterweights of the world. If he'd got in with me, which we all expected, I'd definitely end his career.

"Him fighting at middleweight against Canelo, he can always say 'the guy was too big for me. I thought this and I thought that.' He can come up with that and drop back down so it's win-win for Khan I think."

Brook is expected to target either WBC champion Danny Garcia or the winner of the WBO title clash between Timothy Bradley and Manny Pacquiao in the summer, providing that he can defeat mandatory challenger Kevin Bizier on March 26.
