Carl Froch aims to become the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world by defeating Andre Ward.

World unified super-middleweight champion Carl Froch has targeted a victory over undefeated Andre Ward to become the "best pound-for-pound fighter in the world".

Froch said that if he gets his victory over Ward and Floyd Mayweather retires then he would become the world's best fighter, and this is the target he has now set for himself.

"Mayweather is nearly finished and doesn't have many fights left in him," Froch told the Daily Star. "If I can meet and beat Ward, when Mayweather has retired, imagine how that would be? It is the stuff that dreams are made of.

"So, to beat Ward and become the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world would be unbelievable for me. That would be the ultimate way of securing my legacy. Words can't actually describe how it would feel.

"I am in this sport for global recognition that I am an all-time great fighter and you can't give yourself that acclaim. You can only do it by fighting the best of the best and the only one out there now who has beaten me is Ward, because I avenged the Mikkel Kessler defeat."

Froch has said that he wants to fight Ward in Britain.
