Ricky Hatton has confirmed his retirement from boxing two years after his last fight.
The Mancunian, who found success in both light-welterweight and welterweight classes, leaves the sport with a record of 45 wins from 47 fights.
His second loss came in 2009, when he was knocked out by Manny Pacquaio at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The 32-year-old has not fought since, and although he had hoped to retire after a win he has declined offers to step back into the ring.
“I am very upset. It’s a sad day for me,” he said of his announcement. “I know it is the right decision though. I’ve known it was the right thing to do for 18 months, to be honest.
“It’s a bit of a relief to finally do it. It’s been hovering over my head for such a long time.”
“These last two years have been really frustrating,” added Hatton, who last year underwent rehab for drink and depression issues. “I hit rock bottom and it almost drove me insane.
"There's nothing more I love than training for a fight but I have no dreams left now."
