India captain MS Dhoni says his side "need to regroup" after losing the test series against England 4-0.

India captain Mahendra-Singh Dhoni admitted his side "need to regroup" after suffering a 4-0 whitewash defeat at the hands of England.

"You have to be at your best when you play one of the best teams in the world," Dhoni said. "We need to regroup and come back well."

India looked on course to salvage a draw after Sachin Tendulkar and Amit Mishra put on a fifth-wicket partnership of 144, before Mishra fell to Swann.

Tendulkar failed to register his 100th first-class century, Tim Bresnan trapping the batsman lbw.

Dhoni added: "We gave ourselves a good chance with Mishra and Sachin. Sachin is disappointed, but he doesn't worry too much about milestones."

England team director Andy Flower awarded Rahul Dravid with India's man of the series, the batsman scored three centuries and faced 956 deliveries - more than anyone else in the four-game series.

"We expected a tough series but England outplayed us. They are deservedly the number one team in the world," said Dravid.

The two sides will next meet in the first of five one-day-internationals at Durham on September 3.
