Ireland facing Namibia decider after Sri Lanka defeat in World T20 qualifying

Ireland must defeat Namibia in their final group fixture to qualify for the T20 World Cup after losing to Sri Lanka by 70 runs.

Ireland have been left facing a must-win clash with Namibia to qualify for the T20 World Cup.

Having gotten the better of the Netherlands in their opening Group A fixture, Ireland went into Wednesday's meeting against Sri Lanka with the opportunity to move to the brink of reaching the Super 12.

However, Ireland were comprehensively beaten by their more illustrious opponents, who romped to a 70-run triumph in Abu Dhabi.

Despite being reduced to 8-3, Sri Lanka pair Pathum Nissanka (61) and Wanindu Hasaranga de Silva (71) put a 123-run partnership for the fourth wicket to help their team to 171-7.

After losing three wickets inside five overs, Ireland were never in the run chase with only Andy Balbirnie (41) and Curtis Campher (24) making double figures.

Ireland were eventually bowled out for 101 with nine balls remaining, leaving all their hopes on a decider with Namibia on Friday.
