Kevin Magnussen has expressed satisfaction with stepping away from Formula 1 once again, focusing instead on his new role in sports car racing.
The 32-year-old Dane previously left F1 when lost his Haas seat at the end of 2020, but he mentioned that competing at the back of the grid had become "boring".
During his time away, he explored endurance racing and even explored the world of Indycar.
Now, again without a Formula 1 seat for 2025, Magnussen is embracing a fresh challenge with BMW, competing in the full WEC championship, the iconic Le Mans 24 Hours, and this weekend's Daytona 24 Hours.
Speaking to sportscar365.com, Magnussen said his focus has shifted to achieving success in endurance racing.
"My goal is to try and win some big races," he stated.
Magnussen revealed that his move away from F1 has been on his mind for some time.
"I've kind of been preparing a little bit for even some years," he explained. "I knew I wasn't super keen on continuing in Formula 1. I wasn't really actively looking for another contract in Formula 1.
"So I'd already shifted my focus to other things. And I knew sports cars was where I want to be. I think it's very exciting how competitive it is right now with all these manufacturers who joined.
Everyone keeps saying it's the golden era of sports car racing, and I really wanted to be a part of that."
Magnussen also emphasised that his transition to sports cars is a long-term move. "I see this as permanent," he said.
