South Africa coach Gary Kirsten reveals that a decision has yet to be made over the possibility of AB de Villiers returning as a wicketkeeper in ODIs.

South Africa coach Gary Kirsten has admitted that he is unsure whether AB de Villiers will return to keep wicket in one-day internationals.

The Proteas captain was given a break from his duties behind the stumps during their series loss to New Zealand, but Kirsten claims that the 28-year-old may be putting the gloves back on in the near future.

"In terms of our situation with AB, it's more exploratory," Kirsten told reporters.

"We are going through a phase of exploring and understanding his keeping. We haven't closed the door on whether he will become our one-day keeper.

"We felt that it might be a good idea for this series specifically that AB had an opportunity to focus on his captaincy. He is a young captain and there is a lot to do on the field."

De Villiers became South Africa's first choice wicketkeeper following Mark Boucher's retirement last summer.
