Chris Froome boosted his Tour de France hopes after winning Sunday's final stage of the Criterium du Dauphine to take victory in the overall race.

Team Sky's Froome started the day in second place and with an 18 second deficit but attacked a late climb to snatch victory from BMC Racing Team's Tejay van Garderen.

Lampre's Rui Costa finished third, while Briton Simon Yates won the best young rider's jersey in fifth overall.

Froome also won the Criterium du Dauphine in 2013, the year he won the Tour de France.
