Team Sky's Chris Froome extends his lead in the penultimate stage of the Tour de Romandie.

Chris Froome has moved a step closer to recording a victory in the Tour de Romandie by finishing second in the race's penultimate stage.

Simon Spilak moved to second in the overall standings with a win in Saturday's stage but Froome, who finished with the same time of 5:10:00 as his Slovenian rival, now holds a 47-second lead.

"It was quite a straightforward stage for me just following my team-mates," said Froome on Team Sky's official website. "They did all the work and I was able to stay on their wheel all day.

"I definitely felt the pressure on the last climb but I would hope everyone felt the pressure."

Froome now has only Sunday's 18km time-trial left to negotiate to win his first Romandie title.
