Chris Froome keeps yellow jersey following 12th-stage mayhem in Tour de France

Chris Froome retains the yellow jersey in the Tour de France, despite crashing his bike and proceeding on foot during stage 12 of the race.

Team Sky's Chris Froome has kept hold of the yellow jersey, despite dropping 53 seconds off the lead following a pileup in stage 12 of the Tour de France.

The 31-year-old damaged his bike in a crash involving Richie Porte, who smashed into a motorbike that had suddenly broken down.

The two-time winner opted to abandon his bike and run up the Mount Ventoux summit while waiting for the Team Sky support car to arrive.

The Brit eventually finished the stage on his own bike, but as a result of the chaos, Froome dropped to sixth in the general classification, 53 seconds off new yellow jersey holder Adam Yates.

However, the jury revised the results, meaning that Froome has retained the jersey and has a 43-second lead.
