Bradley Wiggins says that he will be fully committed to the cause if Chris Froome is selected as Team Sky's lead rider for the Tour de France.

Bradley Wiggins has vowed to back Team Sky teammate Chris Froome should he be selected as the lead rider for next year's Tour de France.

The 32-year-old - recently voted BBC Sports Personality of the Year - became the first Brit to win cycling's most prestigious event this year and has spoken of his desire to defend his yellow jersey next time around.

However, it is widely thought that Froome will be selected as Team Sky's lead rider, while Wiggins will target Giro d'Italia.

"It could be any one of us," Wiggins told Sky Sports News. "It may be Chris Froome on the day, it may be me. You just don't know in this sport and it is six months away now before that decision is made.

"But once we get on the line, whoever that happens to be, we all have a professional obligation. As we saw last year, what Chris did for me, it could be that I will be doing that for him next year, for the team to win.

"If that's Chris Froome, all eight riders will commit to Chris."

Froome finished second to Wiggins on this year's tour.
