Beau Greaves, Fallon Sherrock bow out of Grand Slam of Darts

Beau Greaves and Fallon Sherrock each bow out of the Grand Slam of Darts after losing their deciding group-stage fixtures on Tuesday night.

Beau Greaves and Fallon Sherrock have each missed out on places in the Grand Slam of Darts knockout stages.

The two female representatives went into Tuesday's fixtures knowing that victory in their concluding group-stage fixture would take them through to the last 16.

However, the pair succumbed to Damon Heta and Rob Cross respectively, with Greaves being involved in a thriller with the former before losing by a 5-4 scoreline.

Greaves had been 3-1 ahead and averaging in excess of 100, but when sat on 42 remaining in the fifth leg, Heta produced a jaw-dropping 164 checkout.

Although 19-year-old Greaves was able to establish a 4-3 lead and set up a match dart, with that finish swung the momentum in her Australian opponent's favour, and he took the deciding leg with a 105 checkout with Greaves left on 45.

In the preceding fixture, Sherrock made a fast start against Cross, opening with a 15-dart leg, but Cross was far more consistent throughout, prevailing 5-2 with a 98.36 average.

Heta set up a showdown with Michael van Gerwen in the second round, while Cross will square off against Nathan Aspinall.

Stephen Bunting also qualified for the last 16 after beating Peter Wright 5-3 in a winner-takes-all contest, moving through to a meeting with Danny Noppert.

Andrew Gilding finished second in Noppert's group courtesy of a 5-1 victory over Haruki Muramatsu, with the UK Open winner setting up a meeting with American Stowe Buntz.
