Great Britain's James Denny 26th in 1m World Championships prelim

James Denny posts the 26th-best score of the preliminary round to miss out on the 1m springboard final at the FINA World Championships in Kazan.

Great Britain's James Denny has posted the 26th-best score of the 1m springboard preliminary round at the FINA World Championships in Kazan.

The 21-year-old from Leeds, making his debut in the Worlds, scored between 50 and 60 on five of his six dives but misjudged the fourth and only scored 31.50 to drop out of contention for the top-12 qualification spots.

Denny, who won Commonwealth silver with Tom Daley in the 10m synchro last year, admitted on the British Swimming website that it was a little "nerve-wracking" making his Worlds debut, but that he is now looking ahead to the synchro competition.

"It's a nice little event just to get the cobwebs off ready to go for synchro later in the competition," he said.

"I think the key for us in that is to just be steady. Of course we're aiming to do some great dives but we're also aiming not to drop any dives so if we do six dives on our head, we'll be happy wherever we end up."

Mexico's Jahir Angel Ocampo Marroquin finished with the best score of qualifying with a total of 412.70.
