Robinho is close to completing a return to his boyhood club Santos, with president Odilio Rodrigues revealing that only the Brazilian's wage demands are delaying the move.

Santos vice-president Odilio Rodrigues has revealed that progress is being made in their attempt to bring Robinho back to the club.

The Brazilian attacker left Santos eight years ago to initially sign for Real Madrid, before later moving to Manchester City and then to his current club AC Milan.

Robinho is reportedly keen to leave the San Siro and rejoin his boyhood team, and Rodrigues has suggested that a deal could soon be agreed if the 29-year-old lowers his wage demands.

"He is much closer [to joining Santos] now than he was some days ago," he told ESPN Brasil.

"I hope he reduces his demands. We know he is an important asset at Milan, and [we] have the expectation that he will reduce [his demands] so that the whole operation becomes feasible."

Robinho, who has been capped 90 times by Brazil, would act as a replacement for Neymar, who left for Barcelona earlier this summer.
